A certain calibre of manager is required to coordinate the efficient running of the £6 million Innovation Centre at Longbridge Technology Park, and with extensive experience in the serviced office sector - including 12 and a half years with a major provider of serviced offices – Andrea Fullard has the credentials to get the job done.
Andrea said: "I was appointed as Innovation Centre manager in March 2007 when the building was a shell, so my business attire consisted of hard hat and boots – not my usual look it has to be said! For the first four months I worked from a site cabin, project managing the fit-out process and attracting start-up and established business to the Innovation Centre, which was certainly a departure from my previous habitat of a comfortable city centre office.
"It was exciting to be involved in the project from such an early stage and I was able to be very hands-on and have a lot of input into the Innovation Centre as it stands today. Longbridge senior development manager, Mike Murray, at St Modwen gave me all the support I needed to make a success of the Innovation Centre but also trusted my experience and knowledge in this area."
After completing a degree in Hospitality Management at Wolverhampton University, Andrea worked in hotel management before embarking on a career in the commercial sector. Building on the practical knowledge she gained on the degree course and her growing confidence and professionalism, Andrea climbed the career ladder to the position of General Manager responsible for the Birmingham operation of the aforementioned serviced office provider.
Originally raised in the village of Weston in Staffordshire, Andrea currently lives in Tamworth with her husband. Both are keen golfers – they even took their golf clubs to St Lucia when they got married on the island five years ago.
Andrea explained how golf has become something of a passion. She said: "I've been playing for about seven years now and golf is a fantastic way to relax outside of the office. My husband and I have played in several countries now including Portugal, Tunisia and Spain."
In fact Andrea is keen to challenge any interested occupiers at the Innovation Centre to a round of golf at the nearby Lickey Hills course. Just for fun of course, although this would certainly help Andrea in her next goal of establishing a thriving community within the building.
She continued: "There is already a fantastic atmosphere among all the occupiers here at the Innovation Centre. I hope to build this further through increasing communication with all the businesses and arranging networking events – who knows, we could even start a Longbridge golf tournament?
"It is already a great place to work and I am definitely looking forward to a bright future not only for the Innovation Centre, but for the wider Longbridge area."
