Rally star returns to birthplace of Mini

Paddy Hopkirk and Mike Wilks with a Mini

Paddy Hopkirk, winner of the 1964 Monte Carlo rally, appeared at the launch of Scyron's 3,500 sq ft new office space at the Innovation Centre. He was joined by the original Mini Cooper S that made Hopkirk one of the foremost rally and racetrack drivers of the 1960s – marking the return to home soil for the most iconic of Longbridge-designed cars.

The event provided the opportunity for visitors to view the new facilities at the Innovation Centre and to find out more about the work carried out by Scyron’s 20 staff at its new headquarters.

The pioneering surveillance technology and software development company, born from a research and development exercise at Birmingham University six years ago, is now the leading force in intelligent video surveillance and presentation of visual and audio evidence - boasting numerous clients worldwide including 95 per cent of the UK’s police forces, the FBI, United States Air Force and many commercial airports.

The company develops cutting-edge software that enables security services, the criminal justice system, transport authorities and other private organisations to utilise intelligent video surveillance and present visual and audio evidence from footage captured from its groundbreaking technology.

Mike Wilks, CEO of Scyron, said the move to occupy the largest space at the new Innovation Centre at Longbridge Technology Park made perfect sense, both in terms of business and prestige. He said: "The redevelopment of Longbridge has presented us with an ideal opportunity, not only to occupy some fantastic new premises but also to be part of the next chapter for an area with a global reputation."

"Everything was right for us to move here after outgrowing our premises at Birmingham Research Park and the flexible terms offered to us were exactly what we were looking for as a growing company."

"Longbridge Innovation Centre offers a nice fit between a fully serviced office where it can feel like a very temporary environment and the option of signing a long fixed-term lease. The terms on offer allowed us a very flexible option with break clauses at every six months over a three-year period. This way Scyron wouldn’t face any penalties for growth, nor would we be bound to a long term lease, which can be a daunting proposition for a director of any growing company."

"Longbridge senior development manager Mike Murray said: “Scyron is a world leader in its field and is exactly the type of business we hope to attract to Longbridge. By choosing to establish its new headquarters here, Scyron is contributing to our aim of once again making Longbridge a world famous centre for innovation."
